ANIMATIC TO ANIMATON: A CREATIVE EXPERIMENT

  • YAS Studio 90 Stubbs Street Kensington, VIC, 3031 Australia (map)

ANIMATION: Animatic to Animation: A Creative Experiment

Age Group: Teens/Seniors (Grades 7-12)
Class Size: 12 max

Bring your ideas to life, one frame at a time.

In this dynamic two-day animation intensive, students will dive into the fast-paced world of visual storytelling as they create their own original action animatic using Procreate Dreams. Led by animator and visual development artist Oscar Ramos, students will explore how animators transform rough ideas into exciting cinematic sequences filled with movement, energy and personality.

Starting from a single frame, students will gradually build an animatic, an early animated version of a scene that combines storyboards, timing, camera movement and rough animation to plan how a final sequence will look and feel. Widely used across film, television, games and animation production, animatics are an essential part of the creative process and help artists experiment with pacing, action, emotion and visual storytelling before full animation begins.

Across the workshop, students will receive a crash course in storyboarding, perspective, shot composition and visual appeal before jumping directly into creating their own improvised animated sequence. Designed to encourage creative risk-taking and experimentation, the workshop challenges students to think visually, plan dynamic action and communicate story through movement and cinematic framing.

Perfect for teens and senior students interested in animation, filmmaking, concept art or visual storytelling, this intensive offers an exciting introduction to industry-inspired animation workflows in a collaborative and creatively driven studio environment.
