WHAT YOU’LL EXPLORE
Our Young Adults Acting program focuses on developing truthful, connected and compelling performances, with a particular emphasis on acting for screen.
Through practical exercises, improvisation and in-depth scene work, you'll explore the foundations of acting technique, from understanding a character's motivations and relationships to making specific choices that bring a story to life. While our work is grounded in screen performance, the skills and techniques you'll develop are transferable across stage, screen and other performance environments.
Each term introduces new material, creative challenges and opportunities to collaborate with other actors. You'll learn to trust your instincts, respond truthfully to your scene partner, take on direction and refine your performance through exploration and feedback.
Led by working actors and industry professionals, our classes bring real-world experience from rehearsal rooms and film sets into the studio.
Throughout the program, you'll:
Script Analysis & Scene Study: Break down scripts to understand given circumstances, relationships, objectives, obstacles and actions, and explore how these inform your performance.
Character Development: Investigate a character's point of view, motivations and emotional life to create performances that feel truthful, specific and grounded.
Screen Acting Technique: Explore the nuances of performing for camera, developing an understanding of subtlety, listening, presence and how your choices translate on screen.
Improvisation & Creative Instincts: Strengthen your spontaneity, adaptability and ability to respond truthfully in the moment.
Voice & Physicality: Develop greater awareness and control of your voice, body and presence, and how these contribute to character and storytelling.
Working with a Director: Learn to interpret direction, make adjustments and explore different approaches to a scene through a collaborative creative process.
Collaboration & Feedback: Work closely with scene partners, take creative risks and develop the skills to give and receive constructive feedback.
