FAQs
Who are the classes for?
We run programs for young creatives in Grades 3–6 (Juniors), 7–9 (Teens), and 10–12 (Seniors)—roughly ages 8–18. Check the Term Classes pages for what each level covers.
Do students need prior experience?
Nope. We welcome beginners through to advanced. Seniors may also see advanced acting options.
Where are you located?
We’re at 90 Stubbs St, Kensington (3031), Melbourne. You’ll receive full details and arrival info after enrolment. See Contact page for map and directions.
How big are the classes?
We keep small class sizes so every student gets meaningful time and feedback. The maximum number of students per term class is 16.
What disciplines do you teach?
Acting, Filmmaking, Animation, and Photography. Classes are taught by working artists who bring current, real-world practice into every lesson.
Can my child enrol in more than one discipline?
Absolutely! At YAS Studio, students can choose to focus on just one discipline or explore as many as they like. Our timetable has been carefully designed so that each age group can take part in multiple classes without timetable clashes. Many students love combining disciplines, like Acting and Filmmaking, or Animation and Photography, to build a broader creative toolkit and make the most of their time in the studio. We also offer a 10% discount if students do more than one discipline each term.
How long is a term?
Term programs run across set weeks (e.g., 9-week terms). Exact dates are listed on the Term Classes pages and in your welcome email.
Do you run holiday programs?
Yes—see Holiday Workshops for upcoming intensives and guest-artist sessions.
How do we enrol?
Once you submit an application, a member of our team will contact you (parent/guardian) to discuss the application and ensure it is the right fit. After that, we will send you an email confirming instructions on how to enrol in our student/parent portal.
Can I book a trial?
If you’re unsure which class fits, contact us—when space allows we’ll advise on trial/placement options which will be held during the school holidays.
What happens if my child misses a class?
Please let us know via email. Where possible, we’ll advise make-up options or provide guidance on catching up. See the Enrolment Agreement for details.
Do you run classes on public holidays?
We follow Victorian public holidays. If a class falls on a holiday, we’ll reschedule or the timetable/fees will account for it. We’ll confirm this in the term schedule.
What should students bring?
Water bottle, notebook/pen, and curiosity. For camera-based classes, we supply essential studio gear; personal devices are welcome if noted by the teacher.
Is there a dress code?
Wear comfortable, movement-friendly clothing and closed-toe shoes. For on-camera work, avoid large logos/graphics where possible.
Will there be a showcase or screening?
We aim to share student work through in-class showings at the end of each term. Screenings or showcases will happen at the end of the year to celebrate with the YAS Studio community. Details are announced during the term.
Who are the teachers?
Working actors, filmmakers, animators and photographers. Meet them on Our Team page—they teach what they practice in the industry.
How do you keep students safe?
We operate under our Studio Code and Enrolment Agreement, with clear expectations for conduct, respect and safety. Parents/guardians provide relevant health information so we can support safe participation.
Can my child be photographed/filmed?
We use a separate media consent—you can opt in/out at any time. We respect your choice and handle student media thoughtfully.
How do you handle personal information?
See our Privacy Policy. We collect only what’s needed for enrolment, safety, and communication, and we use trusted service providers.
What’s your refund/cancellation policy?
Please review the Enrolment Agreement for fees, withdrawals, and cancellations. If something changes, get in touch early—we’ll help where we can.
