ANIMATION: Story to Screen (Group 2)

Every great animation begins with a simple idea.
In this fun and creative two-day workshop, young animators will bring their own original story to life by creating a short 3–5 shot animated sequence from start to finish. Guided by professional animator Oscar Ramos, students will explore the complete animation process, from dreaming up a character and designing their world, to planning shots and creating movement that tells a story.
Along the way, they'll learn how animators use visual storytelling to communicate emotion, action and personality without needing lots of dialogue. Through hands-on activities, students will discover the fundamentals of character design, storyboarding, shot composition and animation while developing confidence in turning their imagination into moving images.
Designed for curious and creative young artists, this workshop is the perfect introduction to animation, encouraging students to experiment, solve creative challenges and experience the excitement of seeing their own ideas come to life on screen.
Teacher: Oscar Ramos
Oscar is a rising animation artist with a distinctive, contemporary visual voice shaped by mentorships with leading creators. He trained under Ethan Becker (Voltron: Legendary Defender, The Legend of Korra) and studied with Rad Sechrist (K-Pop: Demon Hunters, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts), and holds a Bachelor of Animation from Collarts (Australian College of the Arts).
He has worked professionally across visual development, character design, and key art on productions in Australia and overseas (currently under NDA). Oscar is a Lead Visual Development Artist on The Mothmen (upcoming), a project helmed by Michael V. Schrayder (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse; Hotel Transylvania 3; The Emoji Movie) and Tristan Torg (host of The Indie Magazine podcast). He is also directing and co-writing an independent project with collaborator Chelsea Merk.

Cost: $250 (incl GST)
What to bring: Please bring lunch, snacks and a water bottle. You will need an IPAD with ProCreate AND ProCreate Dreams and an Apple Pencil to complete this workshop. If you don’t have one please email us at hello@yasstudio.com.au and we will provide one for you.
