The objects we surround ourselves with often tell a story about who we are.
In this one-day photography workshop, award-winning photographer Vicki Bell will guide students through the process of creating a personal photographic series inspired by objects that hold meaning to them. Before the workshop, students will be invited to bring a collection of items that reflect their interests, memories or personality, transforming everyday objects into thoughtful visual stories.
Working like a professional product and editorial photographer, students will learn how to style and arrange their objects, explore composition, lighting and visual storytelling, and discover how small creative decisions can completely change the mood and meaning of an image.
Along the way, they'll develop practical camera skills including aperture, shutter speed, ISO and focal length, gaining a deeper understanding of how photographers use both technical knowledge and creative intention to produce compelling images.
By the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a beautifully photographed series that captures something uniquely personal while building the creative and technical foundations used by professional photographers.
Teacher: Vicki Bell
Vicki is an award-winning photographer and educator with over 20 years of experience behind the lens. Known for her ability to bring out authentic moments and powerful storytelling through images, her work spans portraits, headshots, fine art, weddings and travel photography.
Throughout her career, Vicki’s work has been recognised both in Australia and internationally. She has received multiple Australian Photographer of the Year (VIC AIPP) awards, been honoured by Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (USA), and received recognition at the 2020 Rise International Photography Awards. More recently, she was shortlisted for the Australian Photography Awards in 2022 and 2023.
Alongside her professional work, Vicki is a passionate educator who loves helping young creatives discover the magic of photography. She has taught at some of Australia’s most respected photography programs, including Photography Studies College (PSC) and Collarts (Australian College of the Arts).
