  • YAS Studio 90 Stubbs Street Kensington, VIC, 3031 Australia (map)

FILMMAKING: Cinematography Intensive

Age group: Teens/Seniors (Grades 7-12)
Class Size: 14 max

A 3-day Sunday Workshop Series with Tavis Pinnington

How can the same scene feel like a different genre, simply by changing how it's shot?

Across three Sundays, young filmmakers will explore the art of cinematography with professional Cinematographer Tavis Pinnington, discovering how lighting, colour, camera angles and composition can completely transform how an audience experiences a story.

Using iconic scenes from well-known films as inspiration, students will break down the visual choices behind them before getting hands-on with cameras, lighting and practical filmmaking techniques.

They'll then put their skills to the test, working with the same script to explore how different creative choices can shift its mood, atmosphere and even genre.

With plenty of opportunities to experiment, collaborate and shoot, this intensive offers a deeper understanding of the cinematographer's role in bringing stories to life on screen. Young creatives will walk away with practical techniques, improved visual storytelling skills and insight into professional filmmaking.

Open to both new and returning YAS Studio students.
