Term 1: Through the Lens: Visual Storytelling
Photography is more than taking a picture, it’s about seeing the world with intention and finding stories hidden in plain sight.
In this course, Seniors will be encouraged to slow down, notice details, and use their cameras to explore themes, emotions, and identity. From composition and light to perspective and scale, they’ll learn how the smallest creative choices can completely change the meaning of an image.
This is a space where technical skill meets personal voice. Students will refine their understanding of camera settings, experiment with creative techniques, and explore how images can express powerful narratives. By the end of the term, each teen will present a small, curated photo sequence alongside a final printed image in our gallery celebration—proof of their growth, confidence, and unique perspective as a storyteller.

Apply composition techniques such as rule of thirds, symmetry, leading lines, and balance to create intentional images
Strengthen observational skills by exploring themes, narratives, and visual metaphors in their environment
Gain technical knowledge of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, practicing manual or semi-manual shooting modes
Experiment with perspective, scale, and focal length to shape the mood and meaning of an image
